WHAT WE DO

HAUC (Haitian Americans United for Change) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Haitian immigrants and American citizens of Haitian descent through various programs and initiatives.

The population of Haitians in the United States has been estimated at more than 800,000. The largest population centers are located in New York and Florida. The 2000 census estimated that there were 180,000 Haitians in New York.

HAUC aims to tackle the challenges faced by Haitian immigrants such as language barriers, cultural differences, and discrimination. The organization's goal is to enhance their lives through community building and providing opportunities for social networking.

It's primary goal is to help newly immigrated Haitians transition to life in the United States.

Starting with the language challenge, HAUC offers mentorship from volunteers to help with learning and improving English language skills. The organization helps immigrants find ESL programs and local vocational courses. Additionally, HAUC provides information on government aid programs for housing, training, and healthcare, as well as assistance with immigration services.

It also intends to sponsor seminars including career development, financial education and other social and health issues that are relevant to the community at large.

HAUC aims to foster cultural exchange between Haiti and America, preserving and promoting Haitian heritage while embracing American traditions. As part of this effort, besides English language support, the organization encourages Haitian Americans to also learn Creole and French, the primary languages of Haiti.

HAUC encourages both American and Haitian celebrations as a way to build community connections and strengthen relationships both professionally and personally. These festivities serve as a platform for developing social networks.

HAUC regularly sponsors events such as Haitian Flag Day, Voter registration, Valentine's Day Celebration, Black History Month, and the Mother's Day Gala to bring the Haitian community together as both Haitians and Americans. These events promote unity and cultural awareness.
